Placing grate strips under wall panels
We perform mounting and screwing of the grate slats simultaneously. In order not to waste time on making various supports during the installation of the grate, we prepare them in advance in sufficient quantity and of different thickness. For washers approx 1 mm, we can use pieces of veneer or cardboard. Thickness washers 2 mm can be obtained from two layers of cardboard or veneer. On the washers 3 mm, scraps of hard fiberboard are suitable (exact thickness 3,3 mm). Washers 4 mm or we assemble from previous materials, or we will make it from plywood of this thickness. Thicker washers can be selected from the previously discussed materials or made of solid wood, e.g.. graded thickness co 2 mm.
The washers over 4 mm it is convenient to use two wedges folded opposite to each other, which make it possible to set the grate slats at the appropriate level.
Drawing. Leveling (plumbing) grate slats (1) with a double wedge (2).
Anything can be achieved by alternating wedges and tightening the screws, the desired distance from the wall. The wedges must have a very small tightening angle, that their contact surface with the strip and the ground is sufficiently large.
Place all washers near the screw or on both sides of it, so that the bar does not bend when tightened.
Preparation of the base for direct gluing of panels to the wall.
Small lining elements, whose area does not exceed 0,01 m², can be glued directly to the plaster after the surface is smoothed.
If we know before building a house, which of the walls we will be lining in this way, more cement should be added to the plastering mortar to make the surface more durable. A few hours before gluing the carpet elements, it is recommended to prime the wall surface with an adhesive thinned with water 2:1, similar to the whitening of the walls. If the plaster is not reinforced with cement, the undercoat can be primed with a solution of nitro varnish thinned with acetone thinner 2:1. The solution is applied with a bench brush, similar to lime whitening. It needs to be highlighted that, that the surface of the plaster must be rough before this penetration coating is applied, i.e.. not whitewashed or painted. After priming the plaster with a varnish solution, after an hour you can start sticking the carpet.
If we want to cover previously painted walls, we need to remove the paint. Glue paints are removed wet, scraping them with a putty knife. Wet emulsion and oil paints cannot be removed, just like lime. They are removed dry by scraping with a putty knife or a wire brush. This job is not pleasant, due to the resulting dust. Is required, to at least 50% the surface was cleaned to a clean plaster. Only after 2-3 days, when the wall dries well, a penetration coating is applied (ground), as already mentioned. After the penetration coating is dry, the plaster is removed with a wide spatula, released, but stuck grains of plaster.
